I purchased multiple number of these books for my nieces as a Christmas present instead of the typical dolls, headphones, outfits, stuffed animals ( you know..the typical things a we uncle would buy) and we just dropped them off with their parents. Well the feedback was awesome!!! in almost every case (5 nieces) they all immediately starting looking through, reading, and asking their parents questions about ( Maya Angelou, Frida Kahlo, Georgia O' Keeffe etc..) Great and amazing people in history.. I'm pleased to say the least.. who knows where something like that will lead them..

Note: I received e-ARC of the book through NetGalley. This is my honest and unbiased review.First, I loved that cover, a baby picture of Maud for baby readers. Isn’t that cute?Since I have read Anne of Green Gables, I have been fan of L.M. Montgomery. I read bio of the author on Goodreads and through many other medium so I knew little bit about this great author. But when I saw this title in my auto approval galleys it was hard to let it sit there unread. I wanted to see what author has included in this little picture book meant for children. And I must say I’m not disappointed at all.The concept of the series was fascinating and that description above says a lot. There wasn’t any extended portion as mentioned in description for hardcover, so the format I read must be a board book as it was very short but definitely wonderful.It was colorful book telling the life story of Maud. Illustrations were beautiful. I liked that little picture of Maud illustrator created. I could see lot of similarities between Maud and her character Anne. Both fascinated by books, diving amusing names to everything in Prince Edward Island and became a teacher. It was great to read small facts and I admit few I didn’t even know until I read this. How she got idea for her book ‘Anne of Green Gables’ and how she rewrote her childhood through Anne was great to know.In the end there is brief biography telling the whole story of Maud with her b/w pictures which were pretty. Did you know she liked to be called Maud even though it’s her surname? I didn’t! I wish there was more about the author but it was perfectly fine for children aged 4+ yrs.It was a good impressive way to introduce kids to one the great historical woman and author of the time. I’m sure they would love the book that will inspire them to learn more about L.M. Montgomery and her books in future. There are other books of the series on Jane Austen and Agatha Christie that I would love to read and many famous women in history. It is truly empowering series that will fascinate young reader and teacher would love to teach in classroom.Overall, it was quick, easy read. I definitely recommend this book to all kids and teachers.

This summer I read a biography of Lucy Maud Montgomery; while I'd been a fan of her novels, I didn't know anything about her personal life. It was enlightening to see how much of her life made it into her works, sometimes as idealized events and redeemed outcomes from her actual life experience.When I saw L. M. Montgomery by Isabel Sanchez Vegara in the Little People, Big Dreams series, I had to read it. I wondered how they would condense events into material accessible and engaging to younger readers.It is beautifully done. The illustrations are engaging and accurately convey pivotal moments in Maud's life and there's a good balance between text and pictures on each page. The only published work of hers mentioned by name is Anne of Green Gables, but as that is her iconic work, it's appropriate for it to be the focus and for details of her inspiration to be mentioned.One small quibble I had revolves around when the book mentions her accepting a job at the post office in order to submit stories without anyone else being aware. In truth, the post office was run out of her grandmother's home, where Maud was raised, so while Maud did help with the post office, this book makes it seem like she sought it out when in fact, she was stepping up to help out as her grandmother aged. A perk was being able to send out stories, but that wasn't the primary reason she helped out.There are multiple titles in the Little People, Big Dreams series, and this is another winner.(I received a digital ARC from NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group in exchange for my honest review.)

"Little People, Big Dreams" is such a lovely series and this latest edition, "L.M. Montgomery", does not disappoint. Though I’ve not read any of her work (gasp!), I used to watch the original tv series starring Megan Follows (who will always, always be Anne to me!), so "Anne of Green Gables" is near and dear to my heart.Aside from highlighting the life and accomplishments of an esteemed female author, I love this book because it might inspire some more children to read her stories. In fact, I’m now inspired not only to go back and re-watch the original tv series, but to finally read the series. But I digress…As an adult and avid reader, I’m always excited to learn more about the lives of authors. Once again, I learned a great deal about L.M. Montgomery while reading this book. However, what is particularly pertinent for children is her persistence and positive attitude. Despite a less than stellar childhood, she found a way to make herself happy and tenaciously pursued her dreams. That’s an example we can all learn from.Note: I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley. I pride myself on writing fair and honest reviews.
