Holy Hand Grenade!This mother is big.It is larger than most collegiate dictionaries and almost as large as a PDR (Physician's Desk Reference).I have been enjoying Leonard Maltin's movie guides and Martin & Porter's video guides for about 30 years. I would alternately purchase either the former or the latter about every 4-5 years...about the length of time feature films took to trickle down to the broadcast networks back in the day. I had been shirking my regular purchase as I hadn't seen either volume at local retailers in the past 2-3 years. My most recent volume is Maltin's 2012 edition. I got in earnest last month about getting a newer edition and was mortified to learn that Maltin's last new edition was the 2015 edition and Martin and Porter's was the 2007 edition. I really value having a hard copy to refer to instead of having to fire up an electronic device and burn a few watts every time I want to research a film. As far as I know the VideoHound's movie guide is the only encyclopedic movie guide still being produced in printed form. It is worth supporting their efforts with a purchase to maintain a reference work for those of us who appreciate the format.The amount of information given for individual films is more inclusive than either Maltin's or Martin & Porters. I cannot say as to the overall inclusion of specific films but noted that one reviewer believed that some films had been deleted that had been in earlier versions of VideoHound's movie guide. I will take their word for it as the two other reference works I have mentioned in this review had done the same. Getting a copy of Maltin's Classic Movie Guide should ameliorate the removal of older films now absent in VideoHound's most recent edition. I have noticed that some classic foreign films have not been included - the 1922 version of "Nosferatu" for example. Also TV movie inclusions seem somewhat erratic - Battlestar Galactica's "The Plan" is in this volume but "Blood and Chrome" is not. A fair number of 2018 releases did not make it into this edition either.There are really only two things that I dislike about the book: 1) As large as it is it should really be a hardback volume. Like in an "Eastwood" western, would it be asking to much - "For A Few Dollars More" - to make a hardbound copy available for purchase?. 2) The "Top Grossing Films by Year" index has the films listed alphabetically instead of by each film's gross revenue.Overall I am just very glad to be able to get a comprehensive movie guide in print. Anyone who values the same should purchase this item lest it go the way of other movie guide printed editions.

We buy a new Video Hound every year and use it regularly. It helps us decide what movies to rent. And it helps while we're watching the movie and someone asks, "Who is that actor? What else did we see him in?" or "That was a fantastic performance. I wonder if she got an Oscar?" Our grandchildren say a print guide isn't needed because all the information is on the internet. That may be true, but there's nothing like being able to flip through the resources, compare pages, and save them in hand.

Book delivers movie reviews as advertised, but it used to be more diligent with different releases of the same film. Readers need to know about different releases of the same film and their lengths rather than awards received.

The family use this reference book if not daily at least weekly. It long has been a favorite.

If you want to look a movie up and get a review of it this is your book. Just about all movies are listed in the book. You can also see who stars in it and other movies you may have seen the actor in!

I like having access to newer movies. I dislike not finding some of the older movies that appear on TV. I use it to find descriptions and reviews of any movies shown on TV or offered on Netflix.

This is a very comprehensive guide to movies. If I could give it 4 1/2 stars I would. My only deduction is for the fact that this book is so large it was a challenge to find shelf space.
